A Work in Progress: Drawing the Narrative
One of my clients is a music producer and DJ who is currently working on a project with a well-known hip-hop artist.
This release will be a great opportunity to clarify and launch his own brand.
We've already established the narrative, and now we're focused on how we're going to bring that story to life through all of the different touch points.
This includes the logo(s), colors, typography — and all of the applications of it: the website, his live shows, merchandise, etc.
All of this needs to convey the essence of the brand.
We don't need everyone to grasp the entire story word-for-word...
Our goal is just to evoke the right feeling.
Here are a few directions we've been exploring ...
Theme 1 — Open Source
This direction doesn't have a single logo or color palette, rather it leverages a set of simple design guidelines and free open source assets. This concept is directly based off this quote from him I grabbed during our initial strategy session: "All art is a communal experience, meant to be open sourced, reimagined and shared, keeping artists in flow."
Theme 2 — Analog vs. Digital
This direction explores the contrasting relationship between analog and digital art and how combining the two can make for an end result that is both relevant and timeless.
From here we need to choose one of these directions to go in, then we can go deeper into it.
This has been a really fun project so far.
I will share more when I can!
