how we understand the unknown
Yesterday, my friend Patrick and I were chatting over lunch when the topic of narrative came up.
He said something along the lines of, “Narrative is the only way we understand the unknown.”
Nailed it.
Since the dawn of humanity, storytelling has been our primary tool for making sense of reality.
Whether it’s a referral from someone we trust, a few pages from a text book, or an experience we lived through and recall ourselves, stories shape our beliefs.
Every element of a story contributes to that belief:
- What’s being said
- How it’s told
- Who’s telling it
As entrepreneurs, our success hinges on cultivating others' belief in what we do and who we are.
Therefore, we must put our unique value out into the world so that others can see it for themselves.
But in order to do that, we need to deeply understand what sets us apart.
